Ieranto Bay

The path that leads to the bay starts from the square of Nerano, a hamlet of Massa Lubrense (reachable by sita bus). The bay owes its name to the word “Ieros”, that is sacred: here stood an ancient temple dedicated to the goddess Athena.

Following the signs that start from the square itself, you pass next to Villa Rosa, accomodation where the writer Norman Douglas gave life to his Siren Land; then you take a path surrounded by cultivated vegetable gardens, citrus and olive trees, which will leave space for a wilder Mediterranean brush.

And it is at that point that opens a breathtaking scenery, which shows the profile of the Amalfi Coast and its islets of Li Galli, the ancient residence of the sirens.

Continuing along the path, the eyes are lost in that strip of land that ranges from Punta Campanella to Punta Penna, showing the center all the charm of the island of Capri and its Faraglioni.

Here you have to face a choice: continue towards the charming white pebble bay of Ieranto, its Marina Piccola also known as Marinella, or reach first the ancient Tower of Montaldo and then return to the main path.
