Sorrento

Surriento, a town in the province of Naples, represents the territory’s tourist destination par excellence. Its efficient infrastructure complex makes Sorrento a real “miniature city”. It is known throughout the world for the genius of its poet, writer and playwright Torquato Tasso and its territory’s numerous facets have given it various names including “Sorrento delle Sirene”.

HISTORY

When crossing its sea one can take a step back in time and relive the voyages of historical figures such as the mythological Ulysses and the sirens. The coast has seen pass by busy sailors from Roman times, emperors who had their villas built here and ultimately bleak Turkish ships that sacked the wonderful Sorrento in 1558.

The origins of Sorrento are still questionable: many texts talk of a possible Greek or Etruscan foundation.
