Reaching the Amalfi Coast by public transport

The Amalfi Coast, a jewel made up of 13 world-renowned gems… are you ready to reach it? We’ll guide you step by step through the journey that precedes this magical discovery, starting from three main points: Rome, Naples, and Sorrento.

For those who prefer to start their vacation in total relaxation, we recommend using one of the many local taxi companies, which will take you from the airport/station directly to your hotel – an ideal solution for those traveling with multiple pieces of luggage.

Fiumicino Airport

  • n.1: shuttle Buses and the Leonardo Express train line take you to Roma Termini station. From here, high-speed trains (travel time approximately 1 hour), intercity trains (about 2 hours), and interregional trains (about 4 hours) reach Naples Central Station.

Keep in mind that shorter travel times mean higher ticket prices;

  • n.2: alternatively, you can board the Fiumicino Express bus, which covers the route Fiumicino > Ciampino > Caserta > Naples and is therefore also a valid option if you’re departing from Ciampino.

Ciampino Station

  • n.1: shuttle Buses and the Leonardo Express train line take you to Roma Termini railway station, from where you can follow the above directions (n.1 from Fiumicino Airport);
  • n.2: the same bus line goes to Fiumicino, from where you can follow the previous directions (n.2 from Fiumicino Airport);
  • n.3: other routes of the same Shuttle buses go to Tiburtina station.

Tiburtina Station

  • n.1: like Termini, different types of trains take you to Naples Central Station (n.1 from Fiumicino Airport);
  • n.2: alternatively, there are several bus companies covering different routes:
    – the Marozzi line reaches Sorrento (year-round service) and Amalfi (summer season only) with several daily departures;
    Flixbus covers the same route and also reaches other Campania destinations, such as Salerno and Pompeii. By booking in advance, you can travel directly to Sorrento (only two daily services) at a lower price;
    – the Baltour line, which reaches Naples and Salerno with several daily services.
